The lettuce-breeding team is working at full speed. Meet our new Salanova® varieties/types. Green, blonde and triple-red incised-leaf varieties, improved green and red multi-leaf butterhead varieties, a compact batavia multi-leaf lettuce, a dark green multi-leaf lettuce of the oakleaf type and a completely new type: sweet, crisp frisee lettuce. Note: of some varieties only limited seed is available!

Green incised-leaf varieties

Salanova® Victoire RZ (79-04 RZ) is a green incised-leaf lettuce for outdoor production. It has a strong green colour, which does not change to yellow very quickly at maturity. Compared with Virgile RZ, Victoire RZ is smaller, Nr-resistant and resistant to more Bremia strains; its leaves are not quite so blonde and are more deeply-incised. Suitable for year-round production. Enough commercial seed is available.

Salanova® Barbuda RZ is a blonde incised-leaf lettuce for indoor production from autumn until spring. Compared with Dominica RZ, Barbuda RZ is larger, slightly less blonde and more vigorous in winter. Limited commercial seed is available

Incised-leaf 'Sweet crisp frisee lettuce' 

Salanova® 79-80 RZ. A new type as addition to the already extensive range. Very crunchy bite, ncely frilled and deeply incised leaves. Resistant to Bl 1-25 + Nr-resistant. Very good shelf life and very suitable for mechanical harvest.

Triple-red incised-leaf varieties 

Salanova® Saigon RZ is a triple-red incised-leaf lettuce for outdoor and indoor production. Compared to Optigon RZ and Kardigon RZ, Saigon RZ is larger, Nr-resistant, resistant to more Bremia strains and has slightly sturdier leaves. Suitable for year-round production. Limited commercial seed is available.
NEW!: Salanova® 79-26 RZ and Salanova® 79-61 RZ: Only very limited seed is available for trials.

Green multi-leaf butterhead varieties 

Salanova® Sartre RZ (79-92 RZ) is a green multi-leaf lettuce of the butterhead type. Compared with Voltaire RZ, Sartre RZ has fewer double hearts, more Bremia resistance and a less shouldered base.
Salanova® Seneca RZ (79-55 RZ) is a green butterhead multi-leaf type for spring, summer and autumn outdoor production. Compared to Voltaire RZ and Sartre RZ, Seneca RZ is thicker-leaved, a bit more vigorous and more adapted to outdoor conditions. Seneca RZ has good vigour in more stressful, hot conditions. In southern Europe, Seneca RZ has good vigour in winter as well. Enough commercial seed of both varieties is available.
NEW! As an addition to this: two very new numbers: Salanova® 79-11 RZ (Sartre type and less susceptible to double heads) and Salanova® 79-96 RZ (especially suitable for outdoor production and leaves are less folded). Only very limited seed of both numbers is available for trials.

Red multi-leaf butterhead varieties 

Salanova® Gaugin RZ (79-19 RZ) is a red multi-leaf butterhead lettuce for outdoor production. Gaugin RZ has thick leaves with a very defined red-green colour contrast. Compared with Renoir RZ, Gaugin RZ has thicker leaves, fewer double hearts and a more upright base which makes harvesting easier and reduces the risk of basal rot. Enough commercial seed is available.

Batavia multi-leaf varieties 

Salanova® Catamaran RZ (79-87 RZ) is a compact batavia multi-leaf lettuce. Its leaf type is very different from that of butterhead multi-leaf lettuce and oakleaf multi-leaf lettuce. There is no comparison in leaf shape: the leaves of Catamaran RZ are wider than they are long. Catamaran RZ is smaller, blonder and slower-bolting than Seneca RZ. Catamaran RZ needs favourable conditions to attain sufficient size. It has a slight heading tendency in certain conditions. Commercial seeds available.
NEW! Salanova® 79-07 RZ. Compared with Catamaran RZ, 79-07 RZ is larger, equally fast bolting, and has less-frilled leaves. Only very limited seed is available for trials.

Green multi-leaf oakleaf varieties

Salanova® Dagama RZ (= formerly number 79-63 RZ) is a dark green multi-leaf lettuce of the oakleaf type. Limited commercial seed is available.

Red multi-leaf oakleaf varieties 

Salanova® Xavier RZ (= formerly number 79-71 RZ) is the successor of Xsara RZ. Compared with Xsara RZ, Xavier RZ is more compact, less lobed and more Bremia-resistant.
